i am a kit basher. i bash kits.

i also undress and redress dolls, but not in a sleazy lolicon way, more of a ‘putting 9″ star trek uniforms on 8″ sigma six gijoes’ kind of thing.

also, i was into cardcaptor sakura enough to buy some of the merch, which basically consisted of a deck of the clow cards, and the crap bandai usa versions of the much nicer japanese sakura dolls which i absolutely could not afford. (they were out of production in japan and prices were rising on ebay)

sakura was a magical girl who used magical cards to fight and imprison cute monsters who were secretly other magical cards, giving her new magical abilities to fight and capture still more magical cards, until she’d recaptured the whole tarot-ish deck, which she accidentally released because her schmuck grandfather had just left the magical book containing them lying around, and trusted his 12 year old granddaughter not to be curious about magic books.

her (lesbian) friend tomoyo obsessively followed her during battles, filming the whole thing, and made her all kind of ridiculous costumes. the original manga was by clamp, an all-girl studio that started on doujinshi, so if any of this comes off as vaguely creepy, chalk it up to that.

anyways. sakura had about a thousand ridiculous outfits, and bandai made around fifteen of them for us release. the japanese versions had different heads, but bandai usa cheaped out and used a single mold for the whole series. at least they still made li and mei lin, sakura’s kung fu chinese magic friends.

long story short, the dolls had a nice sakura head and well made outfits, but the bendy body was crap. around this time, the merch for the first harry potter movie hit, and i noticed that the mattel harry and hermione dolls were fully posable. they were in barbie scale, so compared to 12″ adult barbie, they wre around six-seven inches, perfectly matching the sakura dolls.

i thought, i wonder if the sakura head, and costumes, would fit on the hermione body. and they did, and i made a fully posable sakura, mei lin, and li. (as it turned out, i could have just bought hermiones, because harry and hermione had the same body. which fits the whole vaguely lolicon theme of cardcaptor sakura, actually.)

blah. the one i liked most looked like strawberry shortcake, so sue me.
