worked 12 hours today. projectionist training commenced. after I did my usual thursday work(close box till, change the marquee outside, change the showtimes inside) I followed Nathaniel up to the booth and watched him break down Ice Age into cans. (film comes on 20 minute reels, which come in cans: ice age is 5 reels, two cans.)
I’ve seen breaking down before, but he had me finish the job so I’d get the hang of it.
then we went up to another booth where he started doing trailer work while I broke down In the Bedroom(8 reels, two big cans). but his girlfriend called, they’re at the 3 month point and shits getting serious so he had to talk to her for like an hour and a half.
which basically meant I broke down bedroom w/o supervision or aid. I kicked it’s ass.
then I broke down ET (6 reels)alone, which was a BITCH because one of the splices that I’d marked was the wrong splice, and it took forever to find the real splice.
then since he’d just gotten off the phone and still had two movies ot build and trailer work to finish, I broke down No Man’s Land(6 reels) for him.
and then he gave me a ride home. and the sun was out because it was 5:30 am. I got to work at five pm.
dad was just getting up. that seems to be all I see of him lately: i’m on my way to bed when he gets up, he’s at work when I get up, he’s in bed when I get home.
booth kicks ass. now I’m all set for breaking down movies and can help out every thursday, which is good cause R2K is in school and can’t do it for a while.
and change-out every thursday is the road to proj shifts, which I think I want. that or a job at sam goody at pioneer place, where you (I’ve heard) get a 45% discount. dvds!!
or borders. or TRU. need to apply.
need to spend less money on ebay. I’m going to have to only get part of my supercomputer with my tax refund, because at this rate I’ll never put enough money away in time to fund the flight out to NYC.
need to talk to annie when I get my refund checks, so i/her/scott can buy plane tickets all at once and get on same flights.
BREAD: I will be sleeping on your couch when I get to NYC. I won’t stay long. if I really like it there I’ll consider taking a month off the KOIN and coming out in the fall or something. but I’ll have to taste the city to see if I like it. at this point, I’d rather just get a place here in portland and work on my comics. portland kicks ass.
