after a series of wacky misadventures, i have just gotten my room more or less settled. now i’m just waiting for things to dry.
picked up two 28″ neon fixtures, intending to go back for two more, letting me backlight the one upper and two lower panels of my desk, and also put one on the ceiling. but the one on the upper panel gives off so much light, i don’t think i’ll bother with the lower ones. the white walls in here reflect enough back that right now, i don’t even have a ceiling light on, just the backlight. it’s great. enough to compute by and not go blind, but it’s all soft.
i’m still probably going to get some more christmas lights, but that’s largely because i love the way rooms look with just christmas lights on. i (heart) the holidays.
my desk was a pain in the ass to assemble, but it only took about three hours. thank god for tools. i ended up redoing half the screws, if i hadn’t been able to use dad’s power drill for that i’d have gone mad.
heh. when i put together the shelf unit for my computer that i had before, i sized it for my red desk chair, which is about a foot shorter than my black one. it ended up being so low that i couldn’t help but recline in it, so i was always lowriding. it never felt like a real desk. now i’m back to my nice black chair, which has a full back. it’s good.
this desk is huge. i’ve got my tower, monitor, scanner, and speakers on it, and there’s still plenty of room, including the entire top shelf. i could actually fit my other computer and monitor on here with little enough trouble. i’d probably get a switcher at that point though, so i’d only need to have two towers, they could share everything else.
while i was moving stuff around, i found a tray* of junk parts that was full of water. clearly it was leakage water from outside, but i don’t know if it came in the window when i had it open for the heat, or through the wall. hopefully the window, because if it’s the walls, that means i’ll be running into this problem again.
but it’s wierd. it was FULL of water, like two inches deep in the tray. nothing else around there got wet, except one side of my cd tower which got hit with some spray through the screen when people were water. unless that was much worse than i thought, i have no idea how so much water came in and ONLY went into that tray, not even under it or next to it.
everything seemd to be fine, so i rinsed it all off and it’s drying now. hopefully they won’t be stinky, or i’ll have to try warm soapy water. some of that was old stuff i can’t easily replace.
despite all the trouble though, this desk is seriously nice. having a work area down here will be seriously handy once school starts, and having my scanner accessable again ought to motivate me to either update my sketchbook all the time, or buy a newer/faster scanner. this one is cool because i can scan 3d objects, like an action figure, but it’s huge and SLOW for any kind of a flat color image. and since i have a digital camera now, i don’t need the toy scanning capacity.
