having now beaten halo 2 on heroic, i could go on for quite awhile about how it succeeds and fails to live up to expectations, but to put it simply, it feels unifinished. the ending is missing, much of it feels sloppy compared to the incredible level of balance and polish on h1, and there are too many things they hinted at but didn’t deliver on, talked about in the last two years and cut from the final game, or just didn’t do as well as they should have for me to view this as a worthy followup.

rather than leaving you completely satisfied, and yet wanting more, it leaves you ravenous for the third game that they haven’t even confirmed is coming. you know, or rather, you hope, you want to believe they wouldn’t leave us hanging like this, that they wouldn’t rush it out unless there was a good reason for it. like, we needed to amp up h2 to get h3 ready for the x-box 2.

but that has yet to be confirmed. so we must wait.

and this is what i mean. if halo 2 had been everything bungie wanted it to be, we wouldn’t be waiting with rabid anticipation for the announcement of halo 3. we would be blasting our way through h2 over and over for the next three years, pausing only to play h2 on live.
