i was looking on amazon for a couple of books on trees i saw at barnes and noble. i just added 20 books to my wish-list, on tree houses, small apartments and homes, and other cool/odd homes. damn you, amazon, and your high selection and low prices.
extended return of the king hits tuesday.
next friday i’ll be riding north with kt, barring any stupid complications involving the fact that next friday is payday and i can’t go north with $15 in my account.
then i’ll be sleeping on scott and annie’s couch for a week, playing half life 2, playing halo 2 with scott and dave and others, playing katamari with everybody in the world, probably reading some books, and going into seattle at least one day to hit up pike place market, the aquarium, and the scifi museum.
i’m sure there’s some movies coming to theaters in the next couple weeks but i honestly haven’t been paying much attention. and i’m not watching any tv lately so that’s no help either.
speaking of tv, next month brings back 24, sg-1, and sg-atlantis.
apparently enterprise has gotten pretty good of late, but i haven’t cared enough to tape it and find out.
i figured out a solution to my delusions of adequacy dilemma, re i want to have done it so people can see it and reference the ideas in there that turn up in my other, newer, better, more interesting (to me) works. but i don’t want to actually do it.
what i think i’ll do is draw up some character bios and model sheets, some wardrobe model sheets, some architectural studies for the major buildings, cities, and etc in the world they inhabit, and then either a rough timeline of major events, or a full on script for the whole 26 episode ’series’.
then open it up to whoever wants to draw it. the ultimate massive collab project.
this could get into some legal gray area if i ever want to publish a collected edition, but i can solve that problem by simply never doing that. if i do any t-shirts with art from somebody else, i can split the profits down the middle. or i could simply put the character designs and scripts out there as common source(is that right, scott?) and let people do with them as they wish as long as they credit me and don’t make bazillions of dollars without giving me some kickback.
as long as the events in dofa that i’m referencing in other stories have been solidly worked out inside my head, it doesn’t matter if i ever actually DO dofa. the framework will be solid, and the imporant details will naturally show up in the later stories as needed. the rest of it is just context that will be largely unneccessary, as the details of specific events that took place 1k-1million years prior aren’t going to effect things too much.
dofa will be be my silmarilion, only lame.
the odds are fantastically against anybody ever actually doing anything with those ideas though, but that’s fine. mostly i’d want to put that information out there for anyone who was interested in knowing what the hell star is talking about.
and who knows. a month ago i was really pumped up to do dofa again, so maybe i’ll hella streamline it down into a couple graphic novels worth of material and just plug away at it. some of it, at least, is still good and appeals to me. alot of the bad ideas i’d plugged into it just strike me as bad, though. in a way, it’s good that i never got around to starting it, since if i had, i’d look at it now and want to vomit.
or maybe not. five years from now i’ll probably look at my current ideas for psi and want to slap myself.

If you’re into tree houses and other odd domiciles, go rent the documentary Home Movie, about exactly that.
If you can find it, of course.
