ong bak: the thai warrior is badass. tony jaa is the new jacky chan/bruce lee/jet li, and this movie is light on plot, high on tony jaa doing amazing things with no wires and no cgi. elbow to the top of the skull. vaulting cars. thai kickboxing. parkour-esque street climbing. etc.
he’s so fast they do instant replays from different angles to catch the action. some totally good stuff here. the japanese trailer added seven exclamation points to the end of the title, in rapid fire bam bam bam style. this movie earned them.
trailers continue to give away far too much information about the plot of movies. i’m both excited about the full star wars trailer premiering this week, and not sure if i should bother to track it down. the trailer for jet li’s ‘unleashed’ gives away the entire plot. the movie is supposed to be amazing, and the trailer really is, but i’ll need to know how much fighting is there to compensate for having seen the movie already…
xevoz yo. so the line got cancelled, wave four only went to hasbro’s overseas dumping grounds, i’d been waiting on most of wave 3 at the time that the line was canned, all the stock clearance, and nothing else ever to come to american stores. as of the order i just placed with dnstoys for a full case of wave 3 including the two one-per-case figures i wasn’t finding on ebay, and the two-pack from wave 4, once the rest of my shipments arrive i’ll have at least one of every figure in the line except three deluxes, which are all on ebay, and only one of which i need for parts. hooray!
there were two repaint kits with bonus parts that tru had exclusively, which weren’t on ebay at all for some reason. i wanted two of each, but what webstore would carry a tru exlusive? well, that’d be amazon, since they partnered with tru to sell toys. not only did amazon/tru still have both figures in stock, they were marked down to nearly half price. sweet.
now i just need like eight of the cat for his armour parts for one of my projects. more on that later once i get some more kits in the mail and can do some prototyping…
i’m way behind on toy fair news, i haven’t been keeping up. on the other hand, by this point most of it should be online already. sometime this week i’ll get caught up and post more.
update — there is a full trailer for the Hitchhikers movie available at the official site and it looks GOOD. i’m officially convinced. some stuff looks wierd, some stuff looks different, but there was enough there that was both wild and new AND instantly familiar that, well, yeah. it’s going to rule.
a few changes be damned, it’s not like any version of the story so far has been 100% accurate to any other version. and it looks a damn lot more impressive than the bbc version, for all it’s charms. zaphod with a single ‘wheel’ head vs papier mache pirate zaphod? i’ll go with sam rockwell, thanks.
i’m not sure i’ll have any excitement left for star wars given that this hits theaters a full two weeks earlier. i probably will, and lord knows i’ll be buying more star wars toys than hitchhikers toys. in any case.
