bigger guns

i was thinking for awhile about buying a region free dvd player, mostly so i could buy japanese dvds. but most of the japanese dvds i’m aware of and want to buy tend to get imported, so patience won out.

until now. i’ve been waiting for split second, aka one of the worst/best movies ever, to be released on dvd. turned out i missed it. it put out by hbo, super limited, and is now going for upwards of $80 on ebay. i love the movie, but not that much.

then i noticed i could get a region 2 dvd off a british ebay seller for like $27 after shipping. imported from norway, with swedish subtitles, among others.

oh HELL yeah.

so i’m going to get a region free dvd player and buy some japanese dvds off yesasia after all.

also, one of the cds i’d meant to buy on yesasia back when i was watching ct20 went back into print, so i’m getting jaurim vol 3. and their new 4th cd. and wu bai & china blue’s new album. and the tsutomu nihei (blame!) artbook. and an artbook from the character designer for magna carta, a korean rpg i found out about from aaron.

and i just realized i’m totally going to buy a psp. i saw that it’s only $250 at freddies, which is half the price of the pda’s i want. it won’t do most pda functions, but it will do what i really want from a pda right now; store and display photos, and (hopefully) let me keep more permanent versions of text files like my shopping list, my budget, my schedule, etc. i can supplement this with my pocket notebook, and keep them on the memory stick so i can edit/update them every night on my computer.

also, i can put video files from my computer onto memory sticks, or umds, and play them on the psp. also, i can play psp games.

also, the screen is gigantic compared to most pdas. so is the device, but i can live with that. it’s not a pda but it’s not pretending to be a real computer either. a good first step towards getting an oqo eventually.

i really can’t wait until pdas and palmtops merge into a single device market. all i want is a psp with dual analog sticks, a mini-keyboard under a flip up/around touchscreen, and windows xp. give it five years, charge $1000, but i will so so so buy one.

it could actually happen. sony is still making pdas in japan, and just put out a vaio palmtop.
