lucky break

not the best solution, but it could be alot worse. tonight’s goal of rebuilding my system as it was saturday morning, more or less, was a total success. in fact, i had a bonus.

it occured to me today that i had a good, unused power supply sitting in one of the towers i haven’t taken to free geek yet. then i remembered that’s the tower where the m/b or the processor was bad. the tower has never been used, and is perfectly good. all i have to do is take the old broken m/b out.

that was an adventure because the screws were stripped, but i got the board out w/o trashing the case, and everything was perfectly set up for the new (old) m/b.

i pulled the unused power supply out and tried it with the evil motherboard; no booting, no fans, EXCEPT for a second after i cut the power. every time, all three fans in the machine(power supply, heatsink, video card) turned on. for a second.

odd, that. maybe it’s the power supply after all. i think i might go with plan a of buying a beefy new power supply and trying that. although before i replace the new (old) power supply, i should test it in this old unused case with the new (old) motherboard and see if it boots like it did saturday.

okay, way too much information. anyways. i needed to test the power supply on the new (old) m/b so i tried putting the old broken chip in, and it booted.

added my new (old) hard drive, video card, and wifi card, annie’s old monitor, and a kb and mouse, and i’m online typing this post.

essentially, i’m still trying to figure out whether my new m/b or my new (old) power supply is busted, but i’m up a duron 970 mhz chip.

which means i have one fully and one theoretically functional computer(s) now. better than yesterday with one theoretically functional and a sack of scrap metal.

as for the writing bit i mentioned yesterday, friday? i had one of those moments when about five or six big but unrelated and so far unused ideas suddenly cluster together to form a new Big Idea, also known as yet another series of some kind set In A World. A Girl. Two Girls. Five Girls Who Pilot Giant Robot-y Things In A World Beyond Imagination.

or something like that. looks like this one will be concurrent with longevity 3/million plus, possibly combining with/tying into to the second storyline in million plus, which was already going to be two stories anyways.

complicated, i know. the details are in the design. this is tying together elements from my bastard evangelion sequel, one of miles’ concepts from trinity.kmorg, some stuff i was working with in longevity 1-3, another wierd show idea i can’t easily explain, possibly two, and even some shit from my bionicle concept designs.

and the usual mignola, barlowe, and shirow influences, aka the three artists i try at all times to consciously emulate.

my holy three writers would probably be douglas adams, and probably tolkien and herbert.
