my replacement new motherboard is working, and has already jumped my processor output from a gigahertz to 1.8 gigahertz. so yeah, that was worth doing. and i’ve got support for 5.1 sound, although i don’t have the speakers for it.
working with a clean install of winxp. next few days will involve digging out all my install cds and re-installing a load of programs, getting things back to a functional state. then pull all my files off the old hard drive, reformat that, and start ghosting my main drive on a regular basis.
i’ve been wanting for awhile to pick either a vaio tr series or a fujitsu lifebook c? series, which are both 10″ notebooks with dvd-rom/cd burners, a gigahertz processor, 256-512 ram, big hard drives, sd/mmc slots, and etc. but they’re both $2000.
freddies has an averatec 12″ laptop that’s exactly the same, only a little bigger, with a dvd-burner, and it’s only $1000. and from testing the vaio tr on display at costo, the keyboard is too small anyways.
i want an oqo still, but not more than i want that laptop, a psp, a ds, a gamecube, and an ipaq. maybe swap out the psp for a new camera, or swap the notebook for a shitlot of games for those four systems and/or an x-box 360.
i might even get an n-gage while i’m at it. i need a cellphone anyways, none of the good smart-phones support verizon. i want verizon so i can call scott and annie for free, but if i’m thinking of other providers, i might as well consider the phone that would let me play rifts and worms world party.
or that kickass phone that clamshells in half to reveal a full keyboard and widescreen pda screen. i don’t know if i could live with a half-size screen, but i’d be willing to try.

Congrats, man! I’m glad your computer is finally coming together!
Now you can beat HL2 and play WoW with me. ;)
