can’t stop the signal

crap. wiki says that as of the 15th, serenity hasn’t even made back it’s production budget of 39 million, let alone surpassed that. i think it would have to do something pretty ridiculous on dvd in order to justify a sequel in the eyes of the studios.

damn damn damn.

watching the movie, the ship’s interior looked a little off, and wikipedia says that i was right, and they had to rebuild the set from scratch. i wonder if the new set is still together.

i hate when good stories get underpromoted and underperform as a result. it’s inevitable but it still sucks.

then again, for all the shows that fail and die a withering death, there’s something like the new galactica, and sg-1 in it’s 9th season.

at least there’s dvds to watch. although wiki says that serenity is due for a better release in the uk and australia than here. i would imagine they’ll be trying to screw us by releasing a basic disc, then later a ‘deluxe’ version. and actually, maybe i would buy both, if it’d get a sequel made.

in any case, the us release hits on december 20th and is going for $17 on amazon.

I think it would help the movie’s take if it hadn’t been weeks since I saw a commercial for it. In today’s “of the moment” consumer culture, it seems a movie’s got to make it’s production budget plus profit in it’s opening weekend to be considered a true success. Nowadays, there’s always another movie coming down the pipe that might fill more seats and thus sell more popcorn.

As is usually the case, this is more the theater’s fault than the studios. Stupid Regal.

no, this is the studios fault. regal doesn’t pay for tv advertising, and we usually pulled trailers for movies after they opened. if you haven’t seen an ad, it’s because the studio cut the tv spots.
