most of my belongings are in boxes right now. the rest will be packed up and finallized as the week progresses. by this time next week i should be sitting at my computer in my new place, wishing i had internet access.
i e-filed i think two weeks ago, and recieved my federal refund on friday. technology is fantastic.
i need to work through the rest of the information now that toy fair is well over and all the coverage is online, but some important bits off the top of my head. actually, i’ll probably just add some links to this later and call it done.
jakks picked up the rocky license, which means a mr t action figure.
mezco got the license for miami vice, the show not the movie.
they’re also making a giant-size king kong movie figure which looks totally sweet.
the third series of hellboy comic toys will have abe and rasputin.
the marvel license is going to hasbro at the end of this year, which means this is the last year for toy biz. luckily, they’re going out with a bang and putting out some seriously awesome stuff. plenty of good villains, which is great. loki, in particular, looks absolutely good. and the build-a-figure onslaught is wicked. he’ll be a great giant monster robot thing for the displays i’ll be able to set up in my new place.
star wars is putting out a target-exclusive gunship repaint, which i don’t need, because i already have the first red gunship. but the blue clone wars repaint with the shark face on the nose is totally wicked. so i might have to break down and get it anyhow. i might mod the red one into a hovertank or something.
i’m really excited about the 4″ pirates of the caribbean line from zizzle. it is exactly the kind of toy that i love the most, and appeals to the same part of my sub-mind as chap meis half-bootleg 4″ stuff and takaras microforce line.
art asylum is doing galactica minimates, but modern adama looks like ass. boomer is nice, and all the classic figures look really good. i’m going to get a bunch of vintage cylons. the die-cast ships from hasbro look pretty good too, and they’ll be doing die-cast action figures as well. i don’t know how well those will work, but i don’t have a problem with galactica figures in scale with star wars. i need to finish up my john crichton custom i was plotting way back when, especially now that i’ve got a gijoe head that actually looks like him.
transformers and gijoe didn’t show much of interest. the new stuff seen was stupid: transformers attacktix(i thought that’d had been cancelled already), both lines getting 2.5″ unleashed sets, and die-cast transformers. that one has potential, but nothing was shown, just announced. given that hasbro has just been importing the japanese transformers and pumping out repaints ever since beast machines ended, it remains to be seen if they’ve kept their edge.
the 8″ sigma six joes showed two new characters and about ten new repaints of duke and snake eyes. that’s never a good sign.
the new wordpress interface had better be a work in progress, because stupid glitches drive me nuts. auto-formatting does the same trick, and hitting backspace to remove the auto-indent should NOT jump me back to the top of my post.
i know, i know, i shouldn’t type up posts in the wordpress text box, etc, i don’t care. doesn’t excuse bad design.
anywho. caught a farscape episode from season 1 in syndication just now. i forgot how GOOD that show was at first. damn, i miss that. sg-1 is fun but it’s not always on it’s game. atlantis would have lost me if rodney wasn’t such a great character. and galactica is fantastic but even that can get depressing. farscape, at first at least, was a perfect mix of inevitable doom and lighthearted adventure. i loved it.
scott’s worried that bringing vala back full-time will be too much, that her character will overpower the show. i think it needs it. with jack gone, carter isn’t as interesting as she used to be. teal’c and mitchell are great, but they’re not always multi-dimensional. daniel can’t carry the show himself, but the interplay between him and vala was the most interesting stuff they’ve done this season. so i can’t wait to see more of it.
picked up lego star wars on sale for $15. i’ll use that to fill time will waiting for internet access to get hooked up. and my dvd of greys anatomy season 1. and the tape of venture brothers season 1 max made me that i’ve only watched one episode off of. and i could keep going but i’m not going to.
the diamond age is amazing. i’m hard-pressed to say whether it’s better than cryptonomicon, but i honestly think i like it more. science fiction being my thing and all.

> by this time next week i should be sitting at my computer in my new place, wishing i had internet access.
Actually, we’re getting cable/internet hooked up on Sunday morning, so hopefully you’ll already be online by this time. :)
> the new wordpress interface had better be a work in progress…
Huh - show me the problems you’re having sometime. I turned off the fancy WYSIWYG editor and just use the plain text field, so I haven’t seen these problems. We can do the same thing for you (it’s under your user preferences if you feel like looking).
> i know, i know, i shouldn’t type up posts in the wordpress text box…
Nah, we all do it, don’t worry.
> scott’s worried that bringing vala back full-time will be too much…
Actually, after watching the “stealing stargates” episode a second time, I’m starting to think you’re right. While I loved some of the jokes (even the puns), that plot was WEAK. And while that particular episode was worse than usual, you’re right that there’s been a decline in quality all season. Especially when contrasted with Atlantis (let alone Galactica).

“the new stuff seen was stupid: transformers attacktix(i thought that’d had been cancelled already)”
You’re stupid.

that is not a compelling argument.
although on the assumption that you’re some fan rushing to the defense of attacktix, let me clarify. i don’t have a problem with attacktix. they’re not badly made, although the proportions are wonky. some of them are even kinda nice. but it’s a badly executed plan to get my money, since i’m not going to hunt through blind 3pack after blind 3pack just to get a figure of a neimodian bishop with a gun.
if they’d been single carded, $3 apop, and everywhere, i’d probably have bought a bunch of them.
but they weren’t. so the news that they’re adding transformers to the mix doesn’t excite me at all.
maybe it’s not stupid, but i see them throwing their dev budgets into that, and the force battlers, and the m-pire, when all i want is star wars xevoz. i’m biased, but that’s the internet.
