some effing perspective

a gunman on the virginia tech campus killed 32 and wounded 29, total of 61 victims. this lone event is the deadliest shooting spree in us history.

a series of car-bombs including one at a crowded market in iraq killed 190 and wounded more than 200, total of let’s say 400 victims. the bomb at the sadriyah market in baghdad that killed 140 people alone was the second such bomb at that location. a previous bomb killed 130 and nearly destroyed the entire place.

i know it’s hard to truly empathize with troubles ‘over there’ vs things we can relate to/might somehow have been involved in, but it’s important to remember that the citizens of iraq have been averaging one virginia tech massacre every day for several years.
