toys for next year

you can see the indiana jones 4″ and playskool stuff which look good but not great, the marvel superhero playskool stuff which is largely blah except the giant-size giant-man.

but the stand-out is the ridiculously well engineered spread from the new transformers cartoon. it’s being colloquially referred to as ‘transformers: animated’ which technically speaking doesn’t tell you a thing about it. but it’s just more cartoony, it’s stylized, unrealistic, more tex avery than mobile suit gundam.

and the toys work. they work REALLY well. both their rounded distorted vehicle modes and perfect transformations into rounded distorted robot modes. and no kibble to be seen. i can’t wait for these figures, such fantastical engineering, i need to hold them in my hands to appreciate it properly.

just go look at the figures, you’ll be impressed. apparently soundwave has a guitar that turns into laserbeak. that sold me on the whole thing right there.
