i slept too much. i can’t focus on anything. i think it’s intensely ironic that i’ve unintentionally trained myself to function better on six hours of sleep than any amount greater than that. (twelve, in this case…)
i think if i took a nap i’d be fine, but i can’t bring myself to admit that’s what’s going on here. this is absurd.
i’m trying to think about and re-lock down character designs and nothing seems right. i’m trying to adjust things to absorb current influences and such, but i’m getting caught up on the details and losing sight of the overall look.
i need a tablet, which means i need to buy that wacom very soon but that’s suddenly less appealing because now there’s a 12″ cintiq out. at $1000, it’s 1/3 the price of the 20″ model, which is too big anyways. reviews say that the screen isn’t as hot as one might expect, but it’s still exactly what i want out of a digtal art tool, so, you know, fuck. i don’t have $1000.
(i did, nearly, before i bought all those used games and systems and also some other stuff, and ironically if i had bought the widescreen dellcd and the wacom i meant to pick up instead, i’d be kicking myself right now.)
in other news, i finally found the smartphone i’ve been looking for. i’ve come to the realization that all other smartphones are too smart for their own good, because they all try to emulate desktop peformance on a vastly sub-desktop platform. palm, meanwhile, took a more ascetic approach and said ‘function first’. consequently, palm devices have always been zippy, intuitive, highly usable, and kind of ugly.
until now. suddenly there’s a gorgeous palm device, and it’s a phone, and the keyboard is just large enough to be fully usable, and it’s not pretending to be something it’s not. even the great and glorious iphone is nothing more than an overreaching ipod. great for media, not so hot for any kind of data management.
the touch interface media playback, on the other hand, is glorious. so plan A right now is centro + 32gig touch + a new canon camera. probably this one. i’m also carrying my gameboy micro around.
essentially i’m forgoing the convergence movement in favor of multiple small devices that do their specific functions extremely well. centro = cellphone + data management. ipod touch = gorgeous media playback. canon = high quality mobile photography. gb micro = snes in my pocket.
and they’re all so small and pocketable that i don’t mind carrying them all around with me. centro and touch in side pockets, canon and gbm in my bag, and i’m always prepared. now all i need is a palmtop with a cellular modem. iphone opera junior vs full firefox running under xp? sorry, apple. give me my isaac or give me death.
