belated

birthday present to myself just arrived, new-in-box japanese ‘beast wars metals’ beast convoy and tarantulas. essentially identical to their us transmetal releases, only this time i’m getting brand new product, instead of used figures missing parts.

the transmetals hung on the pegs for six months to a year, an entire endcap all that time at tru, but i wasn’t watching beast wars so i didn’t care about the characters yet. by the time i knew better, the only ones i was able to find at retail were megatron, depth charge, and scavenger. now, transmetal megatron remains probably my favorite toy from all of the beast wars, but the rest of the show characters i ended up with broken and incomplete figures via ebay or lucky finds at goodwill.

‘lucky’ being a relative term, i suppose. my only real luck in that particular hunt was stumbling upon a silverbolt on clearance for $4.99 at tru when he was going for $40+ on ebay, even loose. given that he was my favorite character from season two after megatron himself, that worked out pretty well.

of course, now i ought to replace my broken transmetal rhinox, cheetor, and terrorsaur figures, pick up the gigantic rampage crab-dude who was awesome but i couldn’t afford at the time, transmetal waspinator who i never even got used, and work out how i can justify $100+ for metals ravage.
